Michigan CPL Renewal: The 3-Hour Training Requirement
Michigan law mandates a 3-hour renewal course for all Concealed Pistol License (CPL) holders in order to renew. Under MCL 28.425b, renewal applicants must complete a firearms safety training course or self study every 5 years before their license can be renewed.
The 3-hour course must be completed by every CPL renewal applicant and include:
* Firearms and the Law * Including legal updates, civil liability issues, and the use of deadly force
* Safety procedures * Safe storage, use and handling of a pistol.
* Shooting Fundamentals * Ammunition knowledge and pistol shooting positions.
* Personal Protection * techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and controlling a violent confrontation.
Consequences of
Non-Compliance
Submitting false renewal information, including training you did not take is a felony offense under Michigan law.
MCL 28.426: Fraudulent CPL Application = felony, up to 4 years in prison
MCL 750.227: Carrying without a valid CPL = 5-year felony
Permanent revocation of CPL privileges
Federal firearms rights may be permanently lost
